Runners and walkers that missed the online entry cut off deadline for the Cell C Day Of Races powered by Reebok will be happy to hear that late entries will be accepted on the day of the event (Sunday, 23 April 2017) at the Greenpoint A Track.
Three runners from the Carbineers Western Province Athletics Club will be seen trying to better their top ten finishing times in the Elite Women’s Race.
Ebeth Marais’ finishing time of 19 minutes 28 seconds secured her a 7th place in 2016, Nicola Hooper finished 8th in a time of 19 minutes 51 seconds with Candyce Hall rounding off top 10 in a time of 20 minutes 08 seconds.
“The Cell C Day Of Races presented me with the perfect opportunity to take a break from my studies and run with elite athletes,” says Marais. “The vibe on the day was amazing and I must admit the prize money was really appreciated. This year I’ve entered the elite race again. My goal will be a well-paced 5km with a strong finish. I hope to break 18 minutes.”
According to Hooper, finishing 8th amongst some of SA’s elites was an honor. “I also got to experience a proper athletics track for the very first time. We were treated so kindly and professionally on the day. It was an amazing experience. The Cell C Day Of Races is a great event because you do not need to be the best or fastest runner. The distance is ideal for less experience runners and walkers. Ultimately it allows everyone to enjoy a “race” whilst having a huge amount of fun.”
“I really enjoyed running through the stadium,” says Hall. “The fact that we had to complete multiple laps resulted in amazing spectator support on route. My goal is to run a fast 5km while having fun. I’d definitely recommend the Cell C Day Of Races to other runners. It’s a properly measured and well organised 5km that is sure to test your leg speed especially after Two Oceans. And it’s fun!”
EVENT INFORMATION: Cell C Day Of Races powered by Reebok
Instead of gunning for gold, the Cell C Day Of Races encourages runners to be social, take photographs and videos at designated points on route, share it to the event’s social media platforms and stand a chance to win magnificent prizes. Entrants can choose between five fun waves, allowing them to run with like-minded individuals. This year the Elite Wave is open to all runners wanting to test their skill against SA’s elites.
