Two hundred children from the SOS Children’s Villages will be seen in action at the 2nd annual Cell C Day Of Races powered by Reebok at Roosevelt High School (Emmarentia) on Sunday, 11 June 2017.

An independent, non-governmental, social development organization, the SOS Children’s Villages believes that every child deserves to grow up in a family environment.

According to Vincent Hlabangana, Head of Programme Development SOS Children’s Villages, being part of the inaugural event was a wonderful learning curve and experience for the members of the SOS Children’s Villages.   “We provide a loving home to orphaned, abandoned and vulnerable children,” says Hlabangana.  “Sport is a brilliant developmental and therapeutic tool especially when dealing with children.  Through sport the children are taught discipline, they’re encouraged to integrate with other children, to develop healthy lifestyles and communicate well.  The children had so much fun at the Cell C Day Of Races in 2016.  It was really good for them to be outdoors, exercise and socialise with other children.”

“We were very excited to hear that the organisers of the Cell C Day Of Races had offered us complementary entries into the 2017 event,” continues Hlabangana.  “The children were over the moon when we told them the good news.  The age groups that we have entered range from 9 to 15 years.  We are counting down the days and are extremely excited to once again ‘Find Our Fit’ at the Cell C Day of Races.”

The theme of the event is ‘find your fit’.  Entrants can choose between 4 exciting start waves:   1. Pretty Fast, 2. Sole Mates (pairs), 3. Young, Fast & Free and 4.Anything Goes.   The 5th wave, the Elite Race is for invited athletes only.  Although each wave is a source of excitement, the Elite Race is definitely a wave not to be missed.
