Close to 100 children from the Anna Foundation will be seen in action at the Cell C Day Of Races powered by Reebok in Cape Town on Sunday, 11 September 2016.
Started in 2005 to provide a safe and constructive place for rural children to be after the school gates close, the Anna Foundation also provides training for women within rural communities. The foundation currently has offices in Montagu and Stellenbosch.
According to Carolyn Clark, Marketing and Public Relations Manager, the Anna Foundation encourages a healthy and active lifestyle through sports. “We regularly take our children to fun runs as part of our sports programme. The events serve as an ‘incentive’ – in order to take part, a child needs to attend the after-school regularly, complete their academic worksheets and participate enthusiastically in the sports and drama programmes. The events give the children a chance to interact with the public, practice their manners, show off their running talent and it’s great for building self-esteem.”
“We are extremely grateful to the organisers of the Cell C Day Of Races for granting us the opportunity to partake in the event,” continues Clark. “We are not only hugely appreciative for the event entries, but also for the fact that the transport costs are being covered – this is always a tremendous expense and determines our involvement in events. A trip to Cape Town will be a tremendous treat. Outings like this are not only about the run, but the entire experience. Being among other runners is also exciting for the children, while the interaction is extremely good for them.”
The Cell C Day Of Races powered by Reebok will take place both in Johannesburg (Sunday, 28 August 2016) and Cape Town (Sunday, 11 September 2016). The theme of the event is ‘find your fit’ and runners will certainly be able to find the start wave which suits them best.”
